The Mass Effect special edition game comes with a booklet which sets out the aims and dreams of the designers. This booklet specifies that Mass Effect:
is not a space opera or a space western. It is a serious and artful cinematic experience, rendered with a unique combination of starkly realistic visuals and hauntingly powerful musical scores.
Well, it certainly is not a space-western, but i don’t see how that’s anything to be proud of. (seriously how cool does space-western sound?!) Perhaps it would have been prudent for Bioware to wait for some positive reviews before publishing their manifesto.
